SteelHacks is an event hosted at the University of Pittsburgh, through the School of Computing and Information, for students at colleges & universities across the US who are passionate about getting their hands dirty using technology and design.

This year is the seventh annual Steelhacks hackathon. Each year students from around the Pittsburgh area and beyond come together to hack and make cool stuff.

Who can attend SteelHacks?
Any undergraduate or graduate student at any college in the world! Non-Pitt college undergraduate students must be at least 18 years old. Unfortunately, high school students can’t attend this year.
Does this cost money?
Not at all! In fact, we pay for all your meals and provide you with all the hardware and help you need at any time for free.
Where will SteelHacks be held?
SteelHacks 2020 will occur at the Alumni Hall on Pitt's campus, 4227 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15260
I can't register anymore!

Where will I sleep?
If you're a Pitt student, you can sleep in your residence hall/apartment. For non-Pitt students, the venue will have designated sleeping places.
I missed the confirmation deadline! Can I still come?
Send us an email to, and we'll see if we can find you a spot!
How do I get there?
If you're coming from out-of-state, we unfortunately cannot offer any travel reimbursement at this time. Students at any university in Pittsburgh can simply take a Port Authority bus straight to the event, so that's simple.
How do teams work?
Teams can consist of up to 5 people, though you can have any amount less than that as well.
What is the code of conduct for this event?
All participants of SteelHacks 2020 will be required to follow the MLH code of conduct that can be found here.
What is my registration used for?
We participate in Major League Hacking (MLH) as a MLH Member Event. You authorize us to share certain application/registration information for event administration, ranking, MLH administration, and occasional messages about hackathons in line with the MLH Privacy Policy.
