SteelHacks is an event hosted at the University of Pittsburgh, through the Department of Computer Science, for students at colleges & universities across the US who are passionate about getting their hands dirty using technology and design.

This year is the third annual Steelhacks hackathon. Each year students from around the Pittsburgh area and beyond come together to hack and make cool stuff.

Friday, Feb 10th

  • 5:30pm - 6:30pm

    Welcome & Registration

    Arrive at the Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center and sign in to the hackathon! Be sure to bring a student ID with you.

  • 6:30pm - 7:30pm

    Opening Ceremony

    Learn about the event, the timeline, and the rules.

  • 7:00pm

    Git Hacking!

    Start making cool stuff.

FAQ

Who can attend SteelHacks?
Any undergraduate or graduate student at any college in the world! Non-Pitt college undergraduate students must be at least 18 years old. Unfortunately, high school students can’t attend this year.
Does this cost money?
Not at all! In fact, we pay for all your meals and provide you with all the hardware and help you need at any time for free.
Where will SteelHacks be held?
SteelHacks 2017 will occur at The Wyndham University Center Pittsburgh, next to Alumni Hall.
I can't register anymore!
Don't panic! Shoot an email to steelhacks@pitt.edu and we'll try to sort it out.
Where will I sleep?
If you're a Pitt student, you can sleep in your residence hall/apartment. For non-Pitt students, the venue will have designated sleeping places.
I missed the confirmation deadline! Can I still come?
Send us an email to steelhacks@pitt.edu, and we'll see if we can find you a spot!
How do I get there?
If you're coming from out-of-state, we unfortunately cannot offer any travel reimbursement at this time. Students at any university in Pittsburgh can simply take a Port Authority bus straight to the event, so that's simple.
How do teams work?
Teams can consist of up to 4 people, though you can have any amount less than that as well.
Since I'm traveling from far away, can I get an increase in reimbursement?
Travel reimbursements are still being worked on, but email us at steelhacks@pitt.edu for any questions regarding reimbursement.
What is the code of conduct for this event?
All participants of SteelHacks 2017 will be required to follow the MLH code of conduct that can be found here.
What is my registration used for?
We participate in Major League Hacking (MLH) as a MLH Member Event. You authorize us to share certain application/registration information for event administration, ranking, MLH administration, and occasional messages about hackathons in line with the MLH Privacy Policy.
